The author, Peter Moore, himself a victim of poor teaching as a beginner, understands fully the problems of overcoming faults. With over 50 years experience of learning, playing and teaching the clarinet, Peter has researched and developed his highly successful teaching method.

For nearly 10 years his first books, the Clarinettist's Technique Doctor and Clarinettist's Advanced Technique Doctor have helped thousands of clarinettists to improve their playing.

Peter's unique clarinet method can be used alongside any tutor book. Standard clarinet tutor books only teach music. They do not show you how to play the clarinet properly. Many of them get the basics completely wrong.

Parents asked us to help them to guide their children but they did not have any musical knowledge so we wrote this book to help them.

The normally accepted method of teaching the clarinet is seriously flawed.

ALL tutor books/primers suffer from the same faults.

1) ALL of them show a "dumbed-down baby-talk" fingering method to begin with.

2) ALL of them teach the bottom register to start - in some cases, that is ALL they teach. We say - and prove - that this is the WORST way to teach the clarinet.

3) NONE of them show your child how to develop an embouchure - essential for good sound.

4) NONE of them show your child how to tongue correctly - essential for articulation.

3) NONE of them show your child how to hold and finger the clarinet correctly - simply vital.

5) NONE of them show your child how to change registers from the beginning. Some of them do show the correct fingering eventually - BUT FAR TOO LATE.

6) ALL of them are guilty of making the clarinet difficult play.

It is difficult for you, as a parent who does not play an instrument, to know if your child is being taught correctly.
