About the Author
About the Author
Ian Bewley taught the cello for about 25 years, at the Royal Northern College of Music and privately. In the early years he taught at the Bluecoat School Manchester, now known as Chetham's School of Music

In 1960, Ian was lent a copy of the New Approach to Violin Playing and immediately recognised fundamental priciples that he had already been discovering from Vilmos Palotai, a former member of the Hungarian Quartet, with whom he studied for four years.

Shortly after this Ian met and studied with Kató Havas and this book is based on the principles of her teaching as they apply to the cello, combined with first principles of playing the cello, as taught by Vilmos Palotai. Ian's extensive teaching experience and lifelong study of the cello, enabled him to bring all these factors together to write the Cellist's Inner Voice, an essential addition to your library, especially if you are a cello teacher.

Ian passed away at the age of 78 in July 2007.
